The Litecoin halving is a predetermined event that occurs every 840,000 blocks of the Litecoin blockchain. At the time of this event, the block rewards miners receive for their efforts in verifying and adding transactions to the blockchain are halved. This process reduces the rate at which new coins are generated and thus serves to control inflation.
The next Litecoin halving is estimated to occur in August of 2023, at block 2,520,000. This will take place four years after the previous halving which took place on August 5th 2019. The number of LTC awarded per block will decrease from 12.5 LTC to 6.25 LTC, reducing the inflation rate by 50%. This event is anticipated by investors as it has historically signaled a price increase due to increased demand and limited supply.
